The Susan Wakil Fellowship

What have you done lately for the world?

The Susan Wakil Fellowship is an unparalleled student leadership program. The Fellowship provides a nurturing platform for Jewish students to learn how to make an impact upon the issues that are being felt by their fellow students and fellow Australians.

Dear Isaac Wakil,

My name is Eli Janover and I am an alumnus of the AUJS Susan Wakil Fellowship from 2021.

I am living in Melbourne and in addition to the Fellowship, I am studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences, as well as being heavily involved in my community as Chairperson of the Australasian Zionist Youth Council Victoria, which is the roof body of Victoria’s Zionist Youth Movements.

The Fellowship paired really well with these experiences and enabled me to develop my leadership skills and put them directly into practice. This past year has been truly eye-opening and I have gained so much thanks to the Fellowship.

My fellowship group’s project was focused on raising awareness of, and engagement with, homelessness issues and organisations. It was very successful and I am still receiving great feedback from those who attended our sessions and from homelessness organisations.

In 2022 I am embarking on an honours year to complete a research project and I aim to continue my involvement in my community, but at the moment I am unsure which avenue to pursue on that front. One thing the Fellowship showed me was that there are so many options available, and now I have the skills and networks required to launch into the field of my choice.

With much appreciation and kind regards,

Eli Janover.
