The Susan Wakil Fellowship

What have you done lately for the world?

The Susan Wakil Fellowship is an unparalleled student leadership program. The Fellowship provides a nurturing platform for Jewish students to learn how to make an impact upon the issues that are being felt by their fellow students and fellow Australians.

If I had known at the beginning of this year what this Fellowship would involve, emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, I would’ve made sure to appreciate this year more than I have.

This program has given me so many things: a new lease on my life post-university, new friends, a brand new community with which to connect, share, laugh and learn. I cannot thank you enough for an opportunity, that has without a shadow of a doubt, changed my life. To sum up the year with a quote I personally love: ‘Find what you love and do it on purpose.' This Fellowship was my moment to reunite what I wanted vs. what I needed out of my life and this experience on this program, and not only have I honed in on those interests, I’ve found people who will support my ideas and push, not guide me in the right direction, because they, like myself, understand the power of our choices and how we are the only ones responsible for our own happiness.

As I write this, I’m beginning to cry. Yes, because this program has meant so much to me and because my little surrogate family will be separated by state lines, but also because I finally see a path that I feel bold enough and equally reassured enough to pursue without hesitation. I feel confident enough in myself to ask and reach for what I need to be understood, represented and appreciated in my communities.

I know the Fellowship is in her name but you are the reason I have this realization.

Thank you
