They say that laughter is the best medicine. Well, these organisations have taken that literally, using comedy as a way to bring people from different cultural and religious backgrounds together and bridge divides.

Israeli–Palestinian Comedy Tour

Founded in 2006 by a Palestinian Arab named Ray Hanania and an Israeli named Charley Warady. They aim to deliver “punch-lines of peace” through a comedy tour around America. Their comedy is focused on the depiction of Israeli’s and Palestinians as human beings. They transcend the politics through humour.

“If we can laugh together, we can live together.”

The two had performed in their respective territories before meeting in America to begin their venture. They were brought together by Hillel (a Jewish campus organisation for students at Colleges/Universities). The comedians have toured America since 2006.

Stand Up for Peace

Started by Scott Blakeman and Dean Obeidallah, this group performs comedy as a way to build bridges, promote tolerance and encourage conflict resolution between Jews, Muslims, Arabs and people of all backgrounds and religions.

"A Jew and an Arab walk into a bar ... sounds like the beginning of a joke."
