Detailed checklist and documentation for participants can be viewed and downloaded here
The Achshav program is one of AUJS' short-term Israel Programs, run during the Australian Summer. It is ideal for those who are seeking a short, high quality introduction to Israel.
The Achshav experience is packed with extensive touring and engaging activities, covering almost the whole of Israel's geography. Its core themes include contemporary Judaism & Zionism,
social Justice and Israel's diversity. The highly interactive Achshav program is the perfect way to get a taste of Israel.
Achshav is intended for participants aged 17 (school leavers) – 26. AUJS runs numerous Achshav groups that are all staggered by age group. Two Australian and two Israeli leaders lead each Achshav group.
Achshav spends significant time in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and around the Kinneret. The program reaches North to the Lebanon border and South to the Negev Desert.
A highlight of the program is a two-night desert experience of hiking, navigating and sleeping under the stars.
Some focus in the program is placed on volunteering. Participants will volunteer at various social service organisations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv that provide essential services to Israel's underprivileged.
Through some structured learning experiences, participants are also introduced to various political and internal issues that Israel faces and strives to deal with. There is one free weekend in the middle of the
program when participants may spend time with family living in Israel.
