Australasian Union of Jewish Students

The Susan Wakil Fellowship

The Susan Wakil Fellowship

The vision of the Susan Wakil Fellowship is to empower a new generation of Jewish leaders with a sense of civic duty; an understanding of our political landscape; and the knowledge, skills, and networks necessary to create change on the important social and political issues facing Australia.

The Fellowship emerged out of a partnership between the Wakil Foundation and AUJS, and a mutual aspiration to increase civic participation among Jewish students in the wider Australian community as a means of increasing the Jewish community’s drive for social and political activism.

AUJS already plays a critical role in the political activism of the Jewish community, and we see this initiative as the natural next step for AUJS and the Jewish community.

The Fellowship combines high-level seminars, workshops, personalised mentoring and internships with a hands-on approach to project development to facilitate rigorous and comprehensive personal and professional development.

The skill sets, understandings and networks developed during the Fellowship will be indispensable to the Fellows throughout the development of their careers as exemplary leaders and change makers in Australia.

The Fellowship will facilitate the development of strong student leaders on campus, providing the skills, knowledge and networks necessary to engage with Australia's toughest challenges.

A major part of the program will also include an opportunity to execute a project to create real change on an issue which the participant is passionate about. Trips to Canberra and the United States will also feature in the Fellowship for participants to learn from accomplished and experienced social and political activists.

All aspects of the Fellowship will be fully funded.

If you are a creative and innovative thinker who possesses demonstrated excellence in leadership and who is highly motivated to create positive change, we look forward to hearing from you.

Applications open on 25th September and will close on 24th October. Applications will be open to students between the ages of 18-25 and who are currently enrolled in undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.

With our website currently under construction we will have more information about the Fellowship and the online application process soon. Watch this space…
