AUJS Aviv, our five month international program for Jewish school leavers in Australia, will regrettably not run in 2016.

By Aujs / October 02, 2015

AUJS Aviv is one of our most valued and meaningful Israel programs. Since first running Aviv, we have sent hundreds of students on a life-changing five month program, in accordance with our Israel Programs ethos of developing and challenging Jewish and Zionist identity, cultivating leadership skills, nurturing cultural understanding, developing life-long bonds and friendships, and fostering communal involvement on return.

This year, the Israel programs market has changed significantly, with new programs and rising competition. While believing wholeheartedly in the value and the quality of AUJS Aviv in its own right and despite working tirelessly to ensure that the past positive impact of Aviv will be replicated, regrettably the numbers for Aviv are presently too low to proceed in 2016.

We believe fundamentally that there is a role for AUJS, as an Australian community organisation, to play in the gap-year Israel program market, and that our unique student perspective has a lot to offer young Jewish adults, but regrettably, this year we have been unable to get a substantial group together to deliver an impactful immersive experience in Israel.

As our number one priority is to ensure that registered participants travel to Israel and develop their Jewish and Zionist identities, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel Aviv for 2016 and to assist registered participants to secure places on programs of their choice.

We look forward to continue running a strong range of short and long-term programs in 2017, with new exciting offerings and the strong educational content that AUJS always provides.
