Our Pillars
AUJS's four pillars are defined in order to describe who we are and what role we have in the community.
Judaism
Judiasm, our first pillar, is understood in the environment in which AUJS operates. It is AUJS' belief that every Jewish student on campus have an avenue to express his or her Judaism without fear of discrimination or persecution. Our mission - which is to unite Jewish students throughout Australasia, promote a Jewish identity and support the needs and interests of all Jewish students - applies to all Jewish students equally, regardless of political, religious or social denominations.
Activism
AUJS is committed to remaining active on social, political and religious issues relevant to Jewish students and the wider student population. AUJS is further committed to providing educational, cultural, political and social activities which serve to enlighten Jewish students with respect to the Jewish religion, Zionism, tradition and culture.
Finally, AUJS is committed to condemning and acting against any form of racism, prejudice and injustice against any group or class in Australasia and the world and to actively promote the virtues of tolerance, co-operation and respect.
Pluralism
AUJS is committed to providing a voice and a platform for any Jewish-Zionist student in Australasia regardless of political or religious affiliation. We are committed to providing our members with an open and pluralistic environment, and this promotes understanding.
Zionism
AUJS is committed to the values espoused in the Jerusalem Program. Furthermore, AUJS is committed to promoting a positive image of Israel on campus and to educating and fostering a positive relationship between members of the Union, the wider student population and Israel.
